Recently a friend of mine had gotten her internet hooked up, she was new to it but definitely needed it for her child's homework needs. But she needed information on setting up a network in her home, so she could keep an eye on her child's activities while online. Since I have access to the internet all the time, I told her of some website to look up. She then proceeded to ask if I knew of a site that had all that information on ONE page, instead of going to a retail site that had one thing, then would have to go back to the beginning of the site and start over.
So I found her a Buying Guide that gave her all the information that she would ever need. She called me up, and of course asked questions of the basics but was impressed by her words of how the buying guide actually had exactly what she was looking for, and for what equipment she needed to network her computers together. Before she called me, she made a call to a retail store that specializes in computers and by the time she hung up the phone, she was lost and confused. So it seems all my friends call me. I love it when I am able to help someone, I really do.
When they were asking her where her access point was, she said that she had no clue what that meant. I think she really appreciated being able to click on the links within the page to learn what each piece of equipment was.
She also wanted my input on what Router to use, I told her the brand I had but it wasn't on the list because I bought mine thru the internet company. But did recommend the LINKSYS only because I have a few other friends who use it and its extremely easy to use. I found that from personal experience. My Friend Dawn's Parents needed help getting their laptops hooked up the to Wireless Internet thru the LINKSYS, found out exactly how simple it was and very impressed by how easy it was.
After all is said and done, my friend who needed help getting her Child's computer set-up for the internet she has since told her Parents whom are not so internet savy and they too are happy with their results. So it feels good to start this chain reaction of helping others.
