All of my family and friends now have power after having 4 days of no power. With that storm we had it really did some extensive damage. For what most people are saying, that its not that bad. Its one of those situations its something you have to be here to see and understand the magnitude.
I do have to say, Thank You to all the hard working out of state workers who have worked around the clock to get our power back up and running. Never once did they complain. But it was our own electric company that we had some complaints. My Boyfriend overheard a electrician with our own electric company brag about how much he was earning in a days time.
I made the comment to my boyfriend…you should of told that son of a witch to get back to work and get us back up and running. This was before the out of town people came. I could not believe the gull of this person to brag about money when people were losing food and jobs. That’s very selfish of him. Maybe he should share his wealth with the family down the road who has 4 kids, newly divorced, doesn’t get assistance and is working 3 jobs just to get by. And to see her crying throwing away all the milk she had just bought for her babies. Because she doesn’t have adequate transportation to go across the river to buy ICE. Which was scarce for 2 days and by the time we got ice, it was too late to save anything.
I also found out too that our Walmart stores suffered heavy damage to their frozen food and deli, dairy and meat depts. We walked into Walmart yesterday to see empty milk shelves, no meat, no frozen foods. Within an hour of losing power they pulled as much as they could into the freezers that were brought in and running off batteries. And it wasn’t just Walmart it was a majority of the grocery stores on this side of the river. Its going to take time for things to be back to normal, and that’s ok. We have come together as a community and it will be alright.
