Day One…Chicago.

Posted on February 25th, 2008 by Christie in Uncategorized

The day started out great, got ready and was already packed.   Found out prior to the trip my Sisters Dog, Macey is very sick by the way.  They found cancer in her bones.  The prognosis is she has about 5-7 months. That was the downfall from the trip… ok back to the trip.  Then I went and dropped my Son off at a good friend of mine, Nicole.  (THANKS) Then went over to my Sisters house to pick them up.  My Sister wasn’t there yet so, we got the van all packed all nice and neat by the way.  So proud.  She finally made it there and barely had any room for everyone as we had 3 extra passengers.  Anyway made to the gas station got gas, two of our passengers went to ride with my parents as they went too.  We finally got on the road about..ummm  noonish I think.

Road trip up was uneventful.  Very nice ride.  Quiet.  Then we had to stop at a rest area and my Sister hops out of the blazer telling me how upset she is with me and her husband.  To explain that, I told Josh my BIL not to tell her about Macey their dog as we knew it would ruin her weekend and she would worry.  Well she uped and called the Vet and asked what was wrong.  We wanted to wait til’ we were on our way home to let her know.  I think it took her awhile to figure out we were only trying to help her.  Well back on the road we arrive finally close to Chicago cutting the time really close as my Niece had a party to attend to at 2:30.  We made it there at 2:45.  oops.  Dusty my Sister didn’t arrive until ten after three because she was in the other car.  But she made it, her eyes still puffy about her dog.  I do need to explain, Macey has been with them for a very long time so she is very attached.  She is a good dog, and yes my heart is broken too.

So we make it to American Girl Doll.  All I have to say is WOW. WOW.WOW.  The food was wonderful.  I had chicken strips and apple slices in caramel sauce.  And the dessert…it was so cute.  A little pot with chocolate mousse, sugar cookie and angel food cake with this extremely rich frosting.  Then we got to go shopping in the store where my Niece got to pick out an outfit for her doll Katelyn.  She also got a accessorie kit for a broken leg, it came with a cast, crunches and other stuff.  By that time I was ready to go because my Sister was on the phone constantly worried about her dog.   We call to see where everyone was at and to come and get us.   They said at the hotel unloading.  And for us to take a taxi.  Ok..let me tell you.  I’ve never been in a taxi.  EVER.  First timer here.  All I can say is…WOW.  He was a good driver, I do have to say.  It put me at ease to see my Van…then it was gone.  I cried.  I asked the bellhop to take care of my baby.  He assured me that it would be locked and be safe.  That was friday….boy I thought I was going to freak out as it went around the corner and almost got hit.  But soon learned, that is how Chicagoans drive.   We finally got checked in, had to go to the 6th floor to the reception .  We got out rooms, they were on opposite ends of the hotel.  Nice but dang a long walk.  Our room was nice.  The best ammenity is we had free wireless internet.  Thank goodness I had my laptop with me.  I was so worried someone was going to take it while we were gone.  But it was fine.  Later on Friday night, my parents had a reservation with our friends Meghan and Werner for dinner so I went downstairs with them, my parents to wait with them and to say hi to our friends.  I went back upstairs to check in on my Sister and her hubby and kids.  We decided to go and find something to eat.   A little mental note, the storms over at Nordstroms close at 7pm.  No food.  Ended up at Cosii’s, I got a Artic Mocha.  The kids got a peanut butter and jelly sandwich because we were running out of time as my Niece had practice at 8pm.  Then its bed time.  A totally new thing for me…13 stories up.  Hard to take in the scenery.  Such beauty.

DAY TWO.

We woke up, and had to hurry.  Breakfast was served at 7am and had to be at the Navy pier by 8am.  We get there and it was just beautiful.  Mother Nature was good to me that day.  Sunshine, thank you Sunshine.   We watched all the teams in the division my Niece was in.  I have to say watching my Niece do her cheer, she really loves cheerleading with a passion.   Out of 12 teams they place 8th, ONLY because one of the girls fell during a climb.  Other than that they did good.   Its a tough competition though.  No pressure on the girls on our team.  The other teams, I overheard the coaches being tough.  There was this huge group there and it seemed they had alot of team spirit but the girls were extremely snobbish.  Not kidding you.  Snobs.  You can tell there is alot of money invested there and it seemed they had their heads in the clouds., the entire time.

Since we were only there til’ about 11am we decided to go and sightsee.  I can’t remember exactly how the day went.  I know we went to Hershey’s factory…YUMMMMMM. We went and ate at Geno’s East.  Then went and visited Meghan and Werner.  Oh My Goodness.  Their view from there place was just beautiful.  I am jealous!!!  Beautiful shot of Lake Michigan.  I took tons of pictures.   After that we decided to take the Blazer and go sightseeing.  Ended up going to Wrigley Field, took some pictures.  Found the brick that has my Sister and Hubby’s name on it.  We finally headed back to the hotel to rest.  But Josh and I ran the blazer back to the parking spot, and walked back from Werner’s building.  We stopped at Dominicks Food store.  Picked up a few items and I forgot to mention earlier when we went thru Nordstroms I found the Lego Store.  They were closed of course so I knew that on Saturday I would have to go there.  So Josh and I stopped and bought my Son some legos and took pictures then back across the street to the hotel.  I really don’t remember too much after that.  Besides us walking down to Popeye’s Chicken.

Well, I am tired right now for some reason.  I have a ton of pictures to upload to my Flickr.  If anyone is interested in looking at my photos on Flickr and your not a friend/family.  You will need permission as my photos are MINE.
